Backstory on some songs from Golden Age

Here is some backstory on a few of the new songs I can’t wait to share with you this Friday!

“Come On In”

This song is a parity on Joe, the poor guy who keeps on getting duped in the same exact way, over and over again.  Hey, I mean let’s get real, we’ve all been there, and it’s easier to talk about Joe than it is about ourselves.  It’s that failed business concept you just can’t give up on,, or that reunion with that ex-wife that you just should have skipped.  Whatever it is, Joe is just as excited to sign up for the brown helmet as he was the last time.  “He’s going the distance,” without going anywhere at all.  He is all too eager to find newness in his old failed experiments.  POOR JOE!

“Love Will Change Your Mind”

This song is a seize the day sort of tune.  I find that it is all too easy to live up in my head.  If I get too far up there I blow like a leaf in the wind, and don’t make the progress I could in real communication with the ones I love.  However, love always prevails, love always changes your mind.  When I say “changes your mind,” I don’t mean changing your mind as in making one choice over the other.  I mean that love will make a significant change to your mind.  Instead of writing a song by yourself you will write one in a room full of people, and the song will be better because you are inspired by the energy around you and you are giving your purified expression  back.  We are all afraid of running out of time to share in these experiences, and you don’t know how much time you have.  All I can say is the rock is more grounded than the leaf that blows in the wind, and will most assuredly last a lot longer because of it.  Love is the rock.

“Cover Me”

When I was twelve years old, my good friend Jason and I made a demo tape to send to Star Search, a TV show that introduced new musical talent to the public.  At that time we had a small keyboard with a built in drum machine, and one microphone to capture my vocals and Jason’s harmonica playing.  We felt we could bring musical joy and expression to the world.  I am now forty-one  years old and the dream is the same.  Whatever it is you love, never stop doing it, and never stop believing in it.  If you give one person  subconscious permission to change something about the life they lead you have done your job.  Maybe you are and always were one of the greats that just hasn’t been discovered yet.
